Last night was the first big snow of the season. Look at the snow balls that formed on my legs and underside. They were literally stuck on me. Mom had to put me in the sink and de-ice me after my romp in the snow today! We must not have had a big snow like this last year because I don't remember that happening before. I was so excited to be outside in the snow that in between my "bunny" hops in the snow, I took my excitement out on the bark of the tree! Have a look.......
I am a member of the Detroit Dachshund Meetup Group and today I went to my first event with them. It was a holiday party with about 20 dachshunds (and a few other dogs). We even had a gift exchange and I scored some new toys and treats! Watch this slide show of some of the new friends I made.
I was a little timid at first but after I checked everything out I went immediately into play mode. As you may know, one of my favorite things to do is to get other dogs to chase me. Watch this video of me towards the end of the party. I was actually slowing down a little here. It was tough for my mom to get video of me earlier because I am SO fast!
Not only did I embarass myself by actually pooping in the middle of the party yesterday (I saw at least five other dogs do it so I thought it was ok!), but I was so "pooped" out from all the running around I did that I passed out on the way home.
WOOF, WOOF, WOOF! Yesterday was my second year tailgating for the Michigan vs. Michigan State game. It was a little chilly in the shade so I spent about half the time in someone's shirt or jacket!
Grandma gave me an early Halloween present. I was quick to "kill" it by puncturing it. Makes it easier to play with when there's a little less air in it! Watch me thrash it!
My mom knows how much I would love a brother or sister to play with. But she says it is not the right time yet. Check out these cute little puppies that need rescuing. Mom went to check them out. Aunt Dawn was so close to adopting them but ultimately decided as cute as they are, it is not the best time for her with her current travel schedule.
They are both short haired and siblings. The male is the light red. The female is black and tan dapple.
I hope someone I know adopts them so I can play with them! For info on how to adopt them, go to http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=9233926
I finally met Klaus, a short haired chocolate mini dachshund who lives in Lansing. His mom got him after she saw how cute I was as a pup! Like always, I just wanted to play. I think I was a little too much for Klaus who hasn't really been around many dogs yet. I'm sure he'll grow to like me. Maybe he'll play with me next time!
I was pretty excited that mom put my pool out again this weekend. Max didn't seem to like it but I think Chelsea enjoyed cooling off in it for a bit. Mom says it's a pool but really it is just like a giant drinking bowl to me. I can't figure it out. Watch this video of me trying to bite the water!
I have a new cousin! Her name is Chelsea. Aunt Joni just rescued her last week. All I want to do is play with her but she is a little timid. I bet she thinks I'm crazy. She is 3 1/2 but she is way smaller than me. She is about 6 lbs and makes me look like I have long legs! Chelsea and Max are staying with me for the weekend. I couldn't be more excited!
This Saturday I went to the 2nd Annual Bavarian Dachshund Festival in Frankenmuth, MI. It was my first time and had no idea what I was in store for. There were probably about 250 dogs that looked very similar to me there! All sizes, colors, and patterns.
We played "bobbing for wieners". I really excelled in this competition. I made it all the way to the third round but was then knocked out by a huge standard sized dachshund. Even though the bigger dog had an unfair advantage, I didn't care that I didn't win. Really I just wanted more hot dogs. Watch me as I dominate the first round.
There was no question that I was the fastest in my race but because I stopped short of the finish line, I came in second. Note to self: next year I need to actually cross the finish line! Unfortunately I don't have video of my race but here is one of my cousin, Max. He was unclear that it was actually a race!
Max and I didn't stay for the costume contest but we modeled our costumes before we left. In case you can't tell, I am a moose and he is a pig. I'm still not sure why we are wearing these outfits.
Here is a 3 month old American Cream piebald mini dachshund that I met. His name is Ranger.
Here is another friend I made. I can't remember how old but he is a short haired red named Louis.
My mom loves me so much that even though she's having the tattoo on her foot removed, she had my paw prints tattooed on her lower back. Sweet huh? That's what I thought at first too until I saw that they slowly washed off and now are completely gone!
So it was a good thing I had Max to keep me company this weekend. Turns out that I was right about something going on in Aunt Nicole's growing belly. I guess a baby came out of it on Friday. Some chic named Luci. I hear she's cute. I haven't met her yet but could she really be cuter than me?!
Before mom snuck away to play with that baby every day, she'd take Max and I for long walks. We loved it but man were we exhausted when we'd get back, as you can see in the pics above.
Sorry I've been out of touch for awhile. I was at Grandma's again from Sunday until yesterday. My mom went to Boston. The best news is that I'm back home now AND I'm having my first sleepover! My cousin, Max, is staying with us for the weekend while Aunt Joni and Uncle Alex are on a tubing trip.
Max is a short haired, red miniature dachshund. He came from a dachshund rescue. He tries to resists my attempts to play, but he always caves and ends up giving me a run for my money. He likes to growl and show his teeth when we play but that is just a front. He is a big softy!
The pics above were taken in December. I'll put some new ones up when I get break from playing this weekend!
Last year at this time, my mom took me on my first trip to Spartan Country, aka East Lansing. Her coworkers wanted to meet me. When we arrived at her office, they surprised us with a puppy shower.
Mom was excited because while she goes to alot of showers for weddings and babies, she's never had one of her own. I was excited because of all the fun toys including this bear. It is one of my favorites even though I "killed" the squeaker and it's one of the few that has made it through a whole year of beating!
But, I learned that showers are exhausting. I don't know how Mom goes to these things all the time. I passed out right in the middle of mine!
My name is Cooper. I am a chocolate long haired miniature dachshund.
Thank you for visiting!
Hi and welcome to my blog! My name is Cooper. I am a purebread chocolate long haired miniature dachshund. Be sure to check back often to see what I've been up to....or into!
I was born on May 18, 2006 on Oakley Farm in King and Queen, Virginia. My breeder thought I would be a micro mini but, although I am quite trim, I turned out to be a mini. I'm about 10 lbs.
....for one, she litter trained me. That's right, I have a dog litter box, not to be mistaken for a cat litter box - but I do have kitty litter. While I still enjoy the occasional "watering of the grass" outside, having that box saves me from having to cross my legs waiting for my mom to get home when she has a busy day and from standing out in the blistering cold MI winters!
My Life
I hit the parent jackpot. It all started when my mom met my breeder in a taxi in front of our nation's Capitol to adopt me. I was 10 weeks old and only 2.5 lbs. We took the cab to the airport where we flew to Detroit. Most people love me and I love them. I am very affectionate. Although, I am also very protective - especially of my mom. Some people call me "mama's boy" but I'm not sure what that means. I don't think I'd ever bite but I sure like to bark if I think, whether it's warranted or not, someone might harm the people I love.
My Likes
I LOVE sleeping! I usually don't get up until my mom gets out of bed and makes me. Even then, I just go find another place to sleep. I sleep most of the day. I'm really only awake about 6 hours on weekdays! When I'm not sleeping, my favorite things to do are: play with my toys - especially the ones that make noise, go for walks with my mom, and chase birds and squirrels. But, probably my favorite thing to do is shred paper. Any kind, I'm not picky: toilet, tissue, wrapping, news, copy, etc.!
